Synopsis
Set in a near-future dystopia on the brink of collapse, Midnight follows an enigmatic man—later revealed as Eddy—during the final hours before an apocalyptic turning point ominously referred to as “Midnight.” The world has fractured into chaos, and Eddy navigates a desolate suburban landscape where society has been overtaken by a brutal, vigilante revolution. Mobs known as “Revs” rule the streets, conducting checkpoint purges of perceived enemies and imposing their version of justice with machetes and baseball bats.
At first, Eddy appears to be a loner scavenging for supplies and safety. We watch as he breaks into a mansion, hacks an intercom system, and stocks up on crates of home-brewed beer. His true motives remain unclear—he passes through checkpoints using charm, subterfuge, and a knack for survival, convincing others he's part of the Revolution's supply chain.
The narrative builds tension as Eddy rescues a man named Ibrahim from certain death and helps him escape through checkpoints, hiding him in the boot of his car. After delivering Ibrahim safely toward the city, Eddy holes up in another mansion—this one concealing an elaborate underground bunker. There, he unexpectedly discovers a woman hiding—later revealed as Chloe—who initially suspects him of being a violent Rev in disguise.
As Eddy tries to convince Chloe of his peaceful intentions, their uneasy alliance is cut short by the arrival of actual Revs, who decide to use the bunker as their shelter for Midnight. The pair narrowly avoid detection. But just as a fragile bond forms between Eddy and Chloe, a slip-up reveals that Eddy may not be who he claimed to be—or, worse, may have helped enable the violence. The final act unfolds in a simmering chamber of mistrust, where survival depends on silence, deception, and restraint, as the minute hand inches toward Midnight.
